Japanese way of New Year celebration -Oshogatsu

New Year is called “Oshogatsu” in Japanese.

In Japan, we celebrate New Year by welcoming a god with the spirits of hospitality.

We also eat special food called “Osechi.”

Osechi is traditional Japanese dishes eaten during the first three days of the new year. Tiered lacquer boxes, called jubako, are loaded with various kinds of foods. Each one of them has a meaning to it, which I will explain in the next blog.

This year, as usual, I had a great “Oshogatsu” with my family.
